HSMP UK or Highly Skilled Migrant Programme UK for UK Immigration
Highly Skilled Migrant Programme or HSMP of the UK is Immigration category Visa. HSMP is designed to attract Highly Skilled Professionals from non-EEA countries to come and settle in the UK. HSMP, UK allows highly skilled people to migrate to the United Kingdom to look for work or self-employment opportunities.
HSMP Scheme has two different assessment schemes - a new assessment for applicants aged under 28 and an assessment for those over 28 years of age.
The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme is different from the work permit scheme because you do not need a specific job offer in the UK to apply or a UK Employer to sponsor your Work Permit. HSMP allows you to apply on your own based on a Points based system that allows points for your Education, Work Experience, Past Earnings, Significant Achievement and Skills of your Spouse or Partner.
It is different from business routes such as the Innovators scheme or other business categories because you do not need a detailed business plan; you do not need to create jobs; and you do not need to invest in the UK.
HSMP Application Process:
You should apply to the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme Team at Work Permits UK (WPUK) in the UK. You can apply from abroad. You can also apply from inside the UK if you are in the UK and your legal status permits change of status.
Your application will not be successful if you are in the United Kingdom as a visitor, on temporary admission, or without permission.

Self-employed General Practitioners qualified to practice in the UK may also apply under the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. They can score 50 Points under the special priority arrangements for GPs.
You need to score 65 points or more to qualify as a highly skilled migrant under the HSMP scheme of the UK.

HSMP Visa Duration:
You will be allowed to stay in the United Kingdom for a period of 1 year as a Highly Skilled Migrant initially during which time you can come to the UK and find a job or seek self employment opportunities or setup a business venture.
After a year, you can apply for HSMP Extension for further 3 years but you must be economically active.
If you live as a Highly Skilled Migrant in the UK continuously for four years, you can apply near the end of the 4 years to live here permanently under Permanent Resident status or Indefinite Leave to Remain or Right of Abode.
